MARINE SCIENCE
Grading Policy and Course Requirements
Students grade will be based on:
- 50 % Exams, Quizzes & Projects
- 20% Homework
- 10% Classwork / Participation/Behavior
- 20 % Lab work
Laboratory
- The lab component for this subject will be part of your regular class. Each class will be assigned a specific day for lab. (You can disregard your 12th period lab class on your program since you will be doing the labs in class.)
- You must attend lab every week on your assigned day. You must answer all questions to receive full credit. If you fail lab you will fail this course.
- You will need 15 labs per semester for a total of 30 labs for the academic school year to successfully pass this course.
Exams, Quizzes & Projects
- They are based on notes, assignments, worksheets, class discussions & readings.
Homework
- Assignments are usually given every single day.
- Students must complete homework in a timely manner.
- Get the phone number and e-mail address of two classmates. That way you can call someone for the assignments when you are absent.

Classwork/Participation
- Students are expected to make a positive contribution to the class by participating in class discussions and activities.
- Classwork includes being prepared for the day’s work.
Attendance
- Come to class every day and be on time.
- If you are absent, bring in a valid absent note the day you return.
- You are late if you are not in your assigned seat, ready to work.
Behavior
- Follow all school rules (i.e.: no hats, no CD players, no beepers/cell phones, no eating in class, etc.).
- Respect yourself and others.
- Behave in a mature business-like manner.
- Keep the room clean.(No food or beverages. No trash on the floor or in the desk.)
Miscellaneous
- Tutoring is available for those who need extra help. There is peer tutoring available and it is your responsibility to find out when it is available. There is tutoring available by teachers in the department. Please, do not wait until the last moment to ask for help. See Ms. Matheos for the tutoring schedule.
- The room pass is only issued for emergencies. It will NOT be given out the first or last 10 minutes of the period.
